AI and
Agentic Commerce

What changes when agents shop, decide and buy on your customer’s behalf, and what your order management has to do about it.

What is agentic commerce?

It’s just commerce. There’s a new word in front of commerce every day, today it is agentic. Yesterday it was unified. Tomorrow it will be something else. The important thing is your tech stack is ready for every version.

(more on this later)

How is AI changing commerce then?

This is the better question. The best way to see it is through your customer.

  1. Step 1The customer

Customer needs brown shoes for a wedding in two days.

    The role of the OMS

Nothing yet. This is the moment before the stack matters.

  2. Step 2The customer

An LLM shows various options across various brands with their availability.

    The role of the OMS

Show real-time inventory availability data to the LLM (faster than the competition).

  3. Step 3The customer

Customer chooses the one that shows it can be delivered tomorrow by 2pm (the other brands can’t display this).

    The role of the OMS

Provide all delivery and pickup options. Everywhere from 1 minute click and collect to narrow delivery windows.

  4. Step 4The customer

Customer is a bit nervous the next morning, they need these shoes. They reach out to customer service to ask ‘Where is my order?’

    The role of the OMS

Use an OMS MCP server to pull the order tracking data from the OMS to the AI agent.

  5. Step 5The customer

An AI agent responds via chat with their order tracking data and estimated arrival time (it’s out for delivery, two more stops until their door).

    The role of the OMS

That data, delivered in real time.

  6. Step 6The customer

Customer receives their order, they’re so happy their order was accurate and arrived early, they write a review.

    The role of the OMS

The inventory, promise, and order data, accurate and fast. Only from a modern OMS.

(aka our FAQ)

Where do I start with agentic commerce?

In the same way to start when evaluating any technology. What is the pain point you have? And does it have an ROI that justifies a cost for it? AI for the sake of AI is pointless. Fluent Commerce believes solely in AI with ROI.

For example, Wilson was experiencing a high volume of WISMO (‘Where Is My Order’) calls to their customer service team and it was costing them. They saw an easy start to their AI journey with clear ROI. They now have AI agents that pull order tracking from Fluent OMS. It’s reduced internal contacts by 30% (in less than a year)

How can I improve my brand’s products being recommended by an LLM?

It starts with the product attribute data that the customer uses for their search. A PIM is a great solution for that. Next is tablestakes data. Just like your PDP customers need to know 1) what’s in stock and 2) when and how they can get it. That’s where you need a modern OMS.
