The Role

As a talented, and deeply motivated Senior Cloud Systems Engineer with a background in SaaS or similar shared software platforms, you’re excited to share your substantial real-world experience building, shipping and operating a product at scale. You pride yourself on your ability to maximise uptime, increase performance, and minimise costs. And while you strive to prevent fires, you’re able to fight them if needed.

In this role you’ll build, monitor and manage the Fluent Order Management Cloud Platform. This includes the design, configuration and operation of the Fluent Commerce cloud infrastructure, including continuous deployment processes. As the platform is used by our product engineers to ship great products, and by our clients to power their global ecommerce, this is a highly visible role. But you’re confident in your ability to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Scale the platform through automation, and evolve systems by shipping changes that improve reliability and velocity.
  • Define, architectures, standards and methods for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Mentor, Influence and Collaborate across teams to bring best practices.
  • Work with the other technology teams to enhance applications for better scale or supportability.
  • Monitor and support Fluent Commerce’s cloud infrastructure.
  • Get involved as needed to drive decisions, push technical direction, fix issues, review designs and generally do what’s needed to make things happen.
  • Be passionate about technology, launching product and inspire passion in others.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years experience in *nix System Engineer.
  • 4+ years experience in AWS or similar cloud environment.
  • Good programming experience in Go, Python or Ruby.
  • Storage – S3, EBS, Postgresql, NoSQL (DynamoDB, ElasticSearch/Solr, Cassandra, etc.)
  • Network – VPN, BGP, Firewalls, DNS and proxies.
  • Linux – Config/service discovery with Consul, etcd, puppet, chef or similar.
  • Application servers – Tomcat/JBoss, Nginx, Apache.
  • Build + Deploy CI/CD using Jenkins, Helm or Spinnaker
  • AWS automation via CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Container orchestration via Kubernetes and a service mesh like Istio or Linkerd
  • Monitoring + Observability – one or more Metrics/Alerts, Logging and APM platforms
